Yoga Sūtra: Misconceptions and Meditations
Explore the Yoga Sutra beyond common misconceptions, while engaging with meditative approaches drawn directly from the text.

What if your understanding of some of the most familiar terms from the Yoga Sutra is not quite what Patanjali intended?
Over time, many of the terms used in the Yoga Sutra have acquired meanings that are very different from their original context. Words such as Yoga, Ashtānga, Chitta, Ishvara Pranidhāna, Āsana, Pratyāhāra, Dhāranā, Dhyāna, and Samādhi are now commonly understood in ways that may obscure the ideas Patañjali was actually presenting.
In this workshop, we will examine these familiar terms more closely, returning to the Yoga Sutra to question our assumptions, explore their context, and consider what Shri Patanjali may actually have meant.
The aim is not simply to replace one definition with another, but to look beyond familiar interpretations and develop a clearer understanding of the text—and of the practice it describes.

Misconceptions invite us to question what we think we know. Meditations invite us to experience what the text points towards.
The Yoga Sutra does not present meditation as an isolated practice, but as an integral part of the larger process of understanding and transforming the mind. Within the Yoga Sutra, Shri Patanjali refers to different approaches to meditation and provides a practical framework for working with attention, mental fluctuations and inner stillness.
The workshop draws from these references to offer a highly practical toolkit of specific meditative anchors. These provide ways to steady attention, cultivate clarity and develop a more sustained relationship with the mind, making the meditative insights of the Yoga Sutra accessible as lived practice rather than merely philosophical concepts.
