Kāya Yoga: Āsana Beyond Shape
Discover Kāya Yoga, the body-based limb of Trianga Yoga, blending traditional asana with modern innovation to explore movement, alignment, anatomy and mindful awareness.

Get A Taste of Kāya Yoga
Ever wondered if there is more to āsana practice than moving frequently between shapes, striving for precise alignment, or briefly holding a prescribed form? Kāya Yoga explores a different approach — using intelligent movement and functional alignment to discover the body, while allowing stillness to deepen awareness and experience.
Kāya Yoga is the body-oriented path of Trianga Yoga, bringing together traditional āsana practice, flow, functional alignment, and intelligent sequencing. The word kāya refers to the body, and within Trianga Yoga, Kāya Yoga is the first of its three limbs, using the body as a foundation for deeper practice.
In this one-day workshop, we will explore the Kāya Yoga approach through guided āsana practice and a simple, practical introduction to the principles behind it. Drawing on traditional Haṭha Yoga and contemporary understanding of anatomy and movement, we will look beyond how a posture appears to explore what is actually happening in the body.
As we explore different postures, we will ask: How does alignment affect the way a posture feels? What role do strength and mobility play? How can breath and awareness change the experience of movement? And how can understanding the body help us practise with greater intelligence and sensitivity?
Rather than trying to achieve an idealised shape or constantly seeking the next movement, Kāya Yoga invites us to explore the body as it is — developing strength, mobility, stability, breath, awareness, and ease through a thoughtful blend of movement and stillness. Curious about how Kāya Yoga feels different? Come and experience it for yourself.

What We Will Explore
What happens when we stop thinking about an āsana as a shape to achieve and begin exploring it as an embodied experience?
Through guided practice, we will explore how different aspects of the body come together in āsana:
- How can anatomy and biomechanics guide the functional alignment of a posture rather than its external shape?
- How can we optimise transitions to move into a posture?
- How can a basic understanding of kinesiology help us sequencing more intelligently?
- How can the breath support movement and awareness?
- Why do we need to move beyond themes towards a more holistic āsana practice?
Along the way, we will look at how bones, joints, muscles, breath, and awareness interact in practice. The aim is not to find one “correct” way of doing a posture, but to develop a more informed, sensitive, and responsive relationship with the body.
